Mark your calendars….
Music Fest 2013 is in the works!

Call to Musicians!
Friends of Watertown Music is inviting members and friends
of the Watertown community to perform in the
2nd Annual Watertown Music Fest.
Friday March 1st
6-10 pm
Watertown Middle School
68 Waverley Avenue

Please contact us at hellowatertownmusic@gmail.com by February 12th if you are interested in performing.
Jazz, classical, rock, folk, klezmer, ensembles, duos, solos, instrumentalists, and vocalists are all welcome!
We will have an “instrument petting zoo”, pizza, bake sale, and more!

Last year’s 1st Annual Watertown Music Fest was a great community event with over 50 performances – by Watertown’s youngest musicians to professionals – on 3 “stages”, raising well over $3000 for the direct benefit of programming in the Watertown Schools.  For the 2012-13 school year, Friends of Watertown Music made a grant of $6800 to reinstate the Middle School jazz band, and half the funding came from Music Fest 2012!  Help make 2013 an even bigger success!

Because we have a few t-shirts on back-order, we are able to take orders this December for shirts that we do not have in current inventory. Shirts will arrive in January.

*Please lend your support to the High School Music NYC Heritage Festival Trip. All students involved in the music program are invited to attend the weekend trip to New York City where each ensemble will perform.  There are many ways to help from participating in restaurant fundraisers to bake sales.

GREAT NEWS!

Friends of Watertown Music is awarding the Watertown Public Schools a grant of $6,800 to expand programming for the 2012-2013 school year. Because of an increase in state funding, the school department has been able to add a half-time music position. Our grant will expand that position to include Jazz Band at the Middle School in addition to broader offerings in the elementary instrument program, high school electives, and new curriculum and classes for special needs students.

Thank you to all whose gifts and advocacy helped make this a reality!

This year we continue to work toward our vision of rebuilding, expanding, and celebrating music in our public schools.

FAIRE ON THE SQUARE

We hope to see you at our table at Faire on the Square!  We will have more information, occasional musical entertainment, and even a few vintage 2012 t-shirts!  To volunteer, ask questions, or perform on Saturday, contact us at hellowatertownmusic@gmail.com.

Welcome to Friends of Watertown Music, a group of volunteer parents and friends of the music program in the Watertown Public Schools. We came together in the summer of 2011 in response to the threat to the integrity of the music program resulting from several years of difficult budgets at local, state and federal levels. We love our music program and are committed to offering the best to the students of Watertown!

Current FY12 Goal:
Raise $60,000 for the 2011–2012 school year so that the School

  • 7th grade general music
  • Full Orchestra at the Middle School
  • Guitar Workshop at the High School
